Dangerous

I used to drive a car with “Dangerous”
In stickers on the driver side window, rust
Ate my exhaust, muffler was ridiculous.
I could terrify people in big trucks,
Drop it in neutral, put my foot on the floor.
Let my ’94 Nissan belt a lion’s roar.
Driver side locks liked to keep me outdoors,
But a careful, flying fist set the score.
Unlocked the door, got me in the car.
Less abrasively than karagana bark
Where I parked the go-kart,
Airtime, foot-slam, wheelie depart.
Where did he go, does someone have the chart?
Last I looked, the engine wouldn’t start.

Spend a day
In a greenhouse away,
Take your pick,
Lots of fruit today.
Spend today
In a quiet place away,
No more danger plays,
Take what’s upcoming, faith
Does not underestimate.
You will celebrate.

Climbing trees like fallen leaves
The wind picked up and tossed in glee,
Tire swing lets little ones see
What’s higher than the taller’s knee.
Dig in dirt, make earthworm tea.
Childhood adventure makes messy neat.
Hiding under robes from Mercy’s seat.
Let the weak and lonely know Jesus hears.
Outcasts hope for more than tears.
There’s a place yet where we’re free.

Spend a day
In a greenhouse away,
Take your pick,
Lots of fruit today.
Spend today
In a quiet place away,
No more danger plays,
Take what’s upcoming, faith
Does not underestimate.
You will celebrate.

Sliding into ditches
And making Christmas wishes.
Snow forts in the winter
Make the long dark nights less bitter.
Playing games together,
Not so boring for the weather.
Minus thirty is a measure
Of how brothers best each other.
Skateboard ramps take up the summer,
And swimming in the lake makes mowing lawns so worth it.

Spend a day
In a greenhouse away,
Take your pick,
Lots of fruit today.
Spend today
In a quiet place away,
No more danger plays,
Take what’s upcoming, faith
Does not underestimate.
You will celebrate.
